BIRTH OF A CALLING

Jean Gourmelin was born in Paris on 23 November 1920; his family, originally from Brittany, is of humble background. He was an only child and his passion for drawing started at the age of 5. At Saint-Ferdinand school (in Paris Ternes district), his first art teacher, Mr. Robert Lesbounit, encouraged him and gave him self-confidence.
