That year, Gourmelin joins the workshop of the famous master glazier Max Ingrand, where he is to remain for 23 years and make the acquaintance of a major cartoonist-to-be, Claude Serre. Gourmelin becomes ‘Director of the drawing office at Max Ingrand’s workshop, Passage Tenaille, Paris’ and, among other things, works on the stained-glass windows of the Rouen cathedral and the chapels of the chateaux at Amboise and Blois.
